How do I download Sims 3 custom content?

I've been trying to download some new outfits and hair for my sims but it seems not to be working.

I put the installed files in

My Files/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Mods/Packages



Did I do something wrong? Or am I just missing something?How do I download Sims 3 custom content?
Have you installed the framework first?

Putting it into the package folder is usually just for package downloads but you should extract the downloaded files into:

My Files/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3/Downloads



Then go open Sims 3, downloads and install from there
