How to download sims 3 mods using 7-zip?

I'm really unsure of how I'm meant to download the sims 3 mods, I have:

downloaded 7 zip

made a mods folder

saved it in mod folder

extracted files

copied file and pasted files into packages folder



(Also everytime i do this it comes up as an EA file rather than sims 3...if it matters?)How to download sims 3 mods using 7-zip?
Sims 3 custom content comes in 2 main types, and how you install the files depends on which type of file you have - there are sims3pack files (which have the sims 3 logo and are really easy to spot) and package files, which normally need to be extracted from other files before they can be installed.
